EUROPEAN STUDIES

Dr. rer. soc. Aukje van Loon ist seit Dezember 2023 Postdoc (Habilitandin) am Lehrstuhl für Multilevel Governance in Europa an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. Parallel dazu ist sie Mitglied des Forschungsbereichs 'Reactivation and Transition' des Forschungszentrums für Nachbergbau (FZN) an der TH Georg Agricola in Bochum. Bevor sie zum Team der Europastudien an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg kam, war Aukje van Loon wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin und Dozentin am Lehrstuhl für Internationale Politik der Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) sowie akademische Koordinatorin und stellvertretende Internationalisierungsbeauftragte der Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaft der RUB. Als Mitglied dieser Fakultät hat sie verschiedene Lehrveranstaltungen gehalten und zahlreiche B.A.- und M.A.-Abschlussarbeiten im Bereich der Europastudien und der Internationalen Politik betreut. Sie war Mitglied der Global Young Faculty der Stiftung Mercator und Visiting Scholar des ACTORE Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence an der Universität Antwerpen. Vor ihrer Promotion erwarb sie einen M.A. in European Culture and Economy (ECUE) an der RUB sowie einen B.A. in Communication with Modern Languages (Deutsch/Französisch) an der Robert Gordon University, Schottland.

Ihre Forschung befasst sich mit Themen wie demokratischer Staatsbürgerschaft, politischer Anfechtung und der Responsivität von Regierungen. Sie analysiert die Varianz der Positionen von EU-Regierungen während des Prozesses der nationalen Präferenzbildung im Bereich der Europäischen Politischen Ökonomie und der EU Economic Governance, insbesondere in der Gemeinsamen Handelspolitik, der Wirtschafts- und Währungsunion und der Energiepolitik. Die Präferenzen inländischer Akteure, die die Positionen ihrer jeweiligen Regierungen in Krisenzeiten prägen und dadurch die Entwicklung und den Inhalt der aktuellen EU-Entscheidungen erleichtern bzw. einschränken, werden vergleichend analysiert. Die Forschungsfragen umfassen unter anderem Studien zu (1) EU-Handels- und Investitionsverhandlungen wie CAI und TTIP, (2) Reformbemühungen nach der Krise wie die Bankenunion und die Next Generation EU, sowie (3) Fragen der Energiewende im Rahmen des European Green Deal. Aukje van Loon nimmt regelmäßig als (Co-)Vorsitzende und Referentin an nationalen und internationalen Fachorganisationen (DVPW, ECPR, EISA, UACES) teil und hat Zeitschriftenartikel und Buchkapitel bei verschiedenen Verlagen veröffentlicht.
