EUS Students in the Utopie Europa 2023!
On 12 July, European Studies students took part in the closing event of the debate cycle "Utopia Europe 2023" held at the French Embassy, in the presence of the Ambassador, François Delattre.
With their project, 'News Mafia' the students representing Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg stood in the podium, following the two teams which shared the first place: Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen und Universität Manheim!

Report: Online Round Table "European Democracy under Threat: How to Make EU Democracy Resilient against Internal and External Challenges"
Auch dieses Jahr und zum dritten Mal organisierte Julia Çetinkaya (Jean-Monnet-Lehrstuhl IMUDE, OvGU), mit Julian Plottka (Universitäten Bonn und Passau) und in Kooperation mit der Union Europäischer Föderalisten, der Spinelli-Gruppe im Europäischen Parlament sowie den Universitäten Flensburg, Frankfurt (Oder), Innsbruck, Paderborn und Wien den „Online Round Table on European Democracy 2023" am 20. Juni 2023, 18:30 – 20 Uhr.
Studierende aus ganz Europa tauschten sich mit den geladenen Repräsentant:innen und Expert:innen in der EU zum Thema „Die Resilienz europäischer Demokratie" aus. Der „Online Round Table on European Democracy 2023" befasste sich u.a. mit dem „anderen Demokratiedefizit der EU".
Report: talking with the author Jürgen Neyer:: "Europa im Unfrieden. Soziale Konflikte und politische Umwälzungen in der europäischen Geschichte und Gegenwart"
On 10 May 2023, the Institute for European Studies at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) hosted the talk with the book author Prof. Dr. Jürgen Neyer: "Europa im Unfrieden. Social Conflicts and Political Upheavals in European History and the Present".
Prof. Dr. Eva Heidbreder, head of the Chair of Multilevel Governance in Europe at Otto-von-Guericke University, took part in the discussion together with Prof. Dr. Michael Minkenberg, head of the Chair of Comparative Politics at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), and Prof. Dr. Claudia Weber, head of the Chair of Modern European History at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). The author, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Neyer, presented the thesis explained in his book. The political scientist claims that there is a pattern when political systems fall into crisis and thus an explanation for the success of populism, increasing nationalism and phenomena such as the Brexit, all in all: for crisis of the European Union. However, his thesis was disputed in the discussion.

The Chair of Governance in the European Multilevel System (Prof. Dr. Eva Heidbreder) is looking for a Student Assistant (m/f/d) with 20 hours per month.
The tasks of the assistant include:
- Support services in research and teaching (e.g. research)
- Ensuring the first contact for student enquiries (mailbox support)
- Maintaining the website
- Assisting with public relations work
- Support in organising, preparing and following up on events
Your profile:
- Enrolment (preferred) in the degree programme 'European Studies' (BA/MA)
- Willingness to work independently
- Organised way of working
- Ability to work in a team
- Good command of English
